The Azalea Festival is Wilmington's semi-official opening of the spring season. Featuring scores of musical and theatrical performances, garden tours and house tours, throughout Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. A grand parade thorough the downtown area, kicks off a weekend of free fun along the riverfront. Including . . .

You may tour public and private gardens throughout the area over a period of days. (Admission is $10, and children 11 and younger go along free with a paying adult.)
Musical performances typically feature several top-name performers each year. Recent headliners have included Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Alan Jackson, Lou Rawls, Gladys Knight, Kitty Wells and Reba McEntire. Concert ticket prices range from around $25 to $45. One of 2002's Featured Artist was Soul Angel, performing on the main stage, Sunday April 7, beginning at 3 pm.
