Annual Maine Lobster Festival
Rockland, ME
   USA
Held on the First  Weekend of August
for 5 day(s)
Description: This year, The Maine Lobster Festival will more formally recognize the critical role volunteers play in the success of the 57 year-old event. "Without them, the Festival simply would not happen," says Festival Corp. President Peter Cella. "I suppose we could do without a parade if we had to, without a carnival, maybe even without lobster. But without our team of 1000 volunteers? We couldn't pull it off." The focus of the festival is, of course, fresh hot Maine lobster. At the 2004 Lobster Festival, over twelve tons of lobster was prepared in the world's largest lobster cooker. In addition to lobster, many other seafoods are available, including steamed and fried clams, fried Maine shrimp, shrimp cocktail, steamed mussels in wine and vegetable sauce, and all varieties of traditional summer fair food, all prepared in the traditional Maine way.
Entertainment: The Maine Lobster Festival has music for every taste! Look for jazz in the eating tent, comedy, oldies, celtic, reggae, folk, a dash of the blues, at other various places throughout the Festival! Check Site for an ever-growing list of 2005 entertainment. In recent years, national acts have included Ricky Skaggs, Dickey Betts, SheDaisy, Dwight Yoakam, The Temptations, Marshall Tucker Band, Willie Nelson, The Dixie Chicks, Sha Na Na, Asleep at The Wheel, and Chubby Checker, among many others. This year, we are pleased to have such names as Jo Dee Messina and BeauSoleil appearing on the Main Stage. We also have something special in the works for Friday night...
